Kathonzweni AIC Boarding Primary School

Primary School Makueni County, Kathonzweni Fundraising
Project Progress 40%

A boarding school of 900 learners — 447 boys and 453 girls. Because the children board, they are on site long after class ends, which makes a library worth more here than almost anywhere.

The project

What we are building here

Kathonzweni AIC Boarding Primary School is the sixth Books & Beyond project and the second developed with A is for Africa. As a boarding school its 900 learners live on site, so a functioning library gives them somewhere to go for reading, curiosity and enjoyment outside classroom hours — not only for academic work.

The journey

The Kathonzweni AIC Boarding Primary School journey

Every project moves through the same seven steps. Here is where this one has got to.

Step 3 of 7 · 40%
  1. The school asked — done
  2. We worked out what was needed — done
  3. Raising the money — in progress
  4. Collecting the books — still to come
  5. Building the library — still to come
  6. The doors opened — still to come
  7. Handed over to the school — still to come

Where it stands now

No library yet. As a boarding school, books matter especially: learners spend much of their time within the school with very little to read outside class hours. Classes run at roughly 45–50 learners each.

Who helped here

This library exists because these people said yes.
